Troubleshooting AB Talent

Most things that look broken in AB Talent are access working as designed. Each person sees only what their Access allows, so a blank screen usually means somebody has not been given something yet, and the fix sits with an HR admin.

Access and the roster

What you seeWhyWhat to do
“You don't have access here yet”You are in the workspace, but you hold no Access. People on the roster get Employee the first time they open AB Talent. Anyone else starts with nothing.Ask an HR admin. On People they can find you under Not on the roster and choose Change access, or add you with New person. Then open AB Talent again.
The same message, and you are on the rosterAB Talent could not match your sign-in to your record. A record typed in by hand is matched on email, and only when exactly one record carries that address.Ask an HR admin to check the Work email on your record against your Microsoft 365 address, and that no other record uses it.
“Not yours to see”You opened a role, candidate or document your Access does not reach. A Hiring manager sees only the roles they are named on. An Interviewer sees a candidate only while they hold Interviewer and are on that candidate’s interview panel.Ask whoever works the role to name you as the role’s hiring manager or add you to the panel, or ask an HR admin to change your Access.
“You're not on the roster yet” on Time off or AttendanceTime off and attendance belong to a roster record, and you have Access but no record. This is common for the person who set the workspace up.An HR admin adds you on People. If that is you, use Go to People.
“Nothing on the roster for you”Your Access does not include the roster. Recruiter and Executive do not on their own.Nothing, if that is what you expect. An HR admin can change it.

Time off

What you seeWhyWhat to do
Your balance shows “0 days left”Nobody has granted days yet. Every kind of time off starts at zero, and nothing is granted automatically. An HR admin uses Grant days on the Time off tab. See Time off.
“No balance kept”This kind of time off does not keep a balance. Sick leave is set up this way by default.Nothing. You can still request it.
“No kinds of time off have been set up yet.”Every kind of time off in the workspace has been archived. An HR admin adds one with New kind, or edits an archived one, on the Time off tab.
You cannot approve your own request, even as an HR adminNobody answers their own request. It never appears in your Waiting for you list.Your direct manager or another HR admin answers it. If a kind of time off should not need anyone, an HR admin turns off Needs approving on it, and requests are then booked straight away.
A manager does not see a report’s request in Waiting for youThey need two things: People manager Access, and to be that person’s direct manager. Managers imported from Microsoft 365 are linked only when they first open AB Talent. An HR admin gives them People manager, and the manager opens AB Talent once. To set a manager by hand, an HR admin uses Record a change on the person’s record. Until then, an HR admin can answer the request.
“That is not yours to answer any more — nothing changed.”You tapped an older card in Microsoft Teams, and you can no longer answer this request. The reporting line or your Access may have changed.Nothing. Whoever can answer it now sees it on the Time off tab.
“That request has already been answered — nothing changed.”Somebody else answered it, or it was cancelled, before you tapped the card.Nothing.

HR help desk replies

These appear in your personal chat with AB Talent in Microsoft Teams. See HR help desk.

The replyWhyWhat to do
“I don't know who you are in AB Talent yet.”You have not signed in to AB Talent yet.Open the AB Talent tab once, then ask again.
“AB Talent works in your personal chat, not in channels.”You asked in a channel or a group chat, where an answer would show to everyone.Ask in your personal chat with AB Talent.
“I couldn't answer that from your record or the handbook, so I've passed your question to HR.”The answer was not in your record or the handbook, or you asked about someone else, or asked for something to be done. Decisions belong to people.Wait for HR. HR admins find it under Questions for HR on the Home tab.
“You're not on your company's AB Talent roster yet, and the handbook didn't cover this…”The desk has no record for you, and the handbook did not answer it.HR has your question. Ask them to add you to the roster.
“…there's no HR admin set up in AB Talent to pass it to yet. Please ask HR directly.”AB Talent could not reach any HR admin in Teams.Ask HR directly. HR admins: the question is still saved under Questions for HR on the Home tab, so check there.

Candidate mail

An HR admin runs Check it can send under People → Setup → Candidate mail. It sends no email. The button stays off until both Send from and Microsoft 365 tenant id are filled in. More detail, in English, can appear under the result. See Writing to candidates.

What you seeWhyWhat to do
“No candidate mailbox yet” on a candidate’s pageThe workspace has no sending mailbox. An HR admin sets one up under People → Setup → Candidate mail.
“The mail app has not been allowed to send.”Your company has not approved the Mail.Send permission.A Microsoft 365 administrator approves it once. Then run the check again.
“This tenant has not approved the mail app yet.”Microsoft 365 would not let AB Talent in to that tenant (your company’s Microsoft 365 account). The approval is missing, or Microsoft 365 tenant id is wrong.Check the tenant id first. If it is right, a Microsoft 365 administrator approves the app once.
“Candidate mail is not set up on our side yet.”The problem is on our side, not yours.Use Contact us at the bottom of the Home tab.
“Microsoft 365 refused, and did not say why in a way we can explain.”Microsoft 365 returned something AB Talent does not recognise.Copy the detail under the message to your Microsoft 365 administrator, or send it to us.
“Microsoft 365 accepted it.”, and then a real message failsThe check confirms the permission only. It does not test the mailbox, because that cannot be done without sending to it.Read the error on the Not delivered message. Check Send from, and if it is a shared mailbox or an alias, fill in Mailbox sign-in name (optional).
“This candidate has no email address on file, so there is nothing to write to.”The candidate was added without an email address. You cannot write to them from AB Talent until they have one.

Microsoft 365 directory

This is under People → Setup → Microsoft 365 directory. Choose Check again to see where you stand. Setup is covered in Setting up AB Talent.

What you seeWhyWhat to do
“Not connected yet”Your company has not approved directory access. Only a Microsoft 365 Global Administrator can, and that is usually not the HR admin.Send them the address behind Open the approval page. After they approve, choose Check again.
“Not connected” after the approval pageThe approval was not completed, so nothing changed. If it says the approval was for a different Microsoft 365 organization, the administrator was signed in to another one.Try again from People → Setup, signed in to the right organization.
“Microsoft 365 refused the request”Microsoft 365 returned an error. Any detail appears beside the message.Choose Check again. If it continues, send the detail to your administrator.
“Not available on this server”The problem is on our side, not yours.Use Contact us at the bottom of the Home tab.

Interviews and your calendar

See Interviews for how booking works.

What you seeWhyWhat to do
“No longer in [name]'s calendar.”The meeting was cancelled or deleted in Outlook. The interview itself is still in AB Talent, and only the person who booked it sees this warning.Choose Cancel it on the interview, or arrange a new one. Cancelling removes the panel’s access to this candidate, so AB Talent leaves that choice to you.
“Your sign-in no longer covers your calendar. Sign in again to book it.” in a browserA service update ended your calendar connection. AB Talent still has you signed in, but it cannot reach your calendar.Sign out with the icon at the top right, then sign in again.
A meeting you deleted still shows “In [name]'s calendar” in a browserUntil you sign in again, AB Talent cannot look at your calendar, so bookings show as they were recorded. The same is true of a meeting somebody else booked.Sign out and sign in again, then reload the page. Someone else’s booking can only be checked by that person.
“Booking in a calendar isn't set up for AB Talent in Teams yet.”Calendar booking is not available inside Teams here.Open the page in a browser to book it, or type the time in.
“AB Talent can't reach your calendar yet…”Your Microsoft 365 administrator has not approved the calendar permission.Ask them to approve it. Until then, use a browser.

If your message is not here, use Contact us at the bottom of the Home tab and tell us the exact words you see.
