The HR Help Desk

The HR help desk answers an employee's questions from two places only: their own AB Talent record and your company handbook. It shows where each answer came from. If it can't find the answer there, it doesn't guess: it passes the question to HR.

Asking a question

The help desk lives in the AB Talent app for Microsoft Teams, so your company needs that app. It isn't available in the browser.

  1. Open your chat with AB Talent in Microsoft Teams.
  2. Ask in your own words, for example “How many days of annual leave do I have left?” or “What does the handbook say about the commuting allowance?”
  3. Read the answer and its sources. Each answer lists what it used under Sources.

It works only in your personal chat with AB Talent. In a group chat it won't answer, because the reply would show to everyone in it. It answers questions and doesn't change anything: requests and approvals are made by people, on the Time off tab.

What it can read

About the person asking

  • Employment details
  • Time-off balances and requests
  • Attendance
  • Documents on file, such as when one expires
  • Company items they hold
  • The handbook, if you chose one

Never sent to the AI

  • Anybody else's record
  • The asker's name, email or phone number
  • Disciplinary documents

When it can't answer

An answer it can't support with a source goes to HR instead, and the employee is told so. HR admins get a message in Teams, and the question appears under Questions for HR on Home.

HR sees the one question and what was already checked, never the rest of the conversation. If the person isn't on the roster, the help desk has no record to read, so it answers from the handbook if it can and otherwise passes the question on.

If you run HR: answering a question

  1. Open Home and find Questions for HR.
  2. Reply to the person directly, for example in Teams. AB Talent doesn't send your reply for you.
  3. Select Mark answered. The question leaves the list.

Home also shows how many questions the help desk answered and how many it passed to HR this month, under Done for you this month.

If you run HR: choosing the handbook

Without a handbook, the help desk answers from each person's own record only. The handbook is written in Documents, the wiki in AB Projects.

  1. Create an AB Projects workspace for the handbook and write it in Documents. See Project Documents. You have to be a member of it to choose it.
  2. Choose it. In AB Talent, People → Setup → HR help desk. Pick it under Handbook wiki and select Save.
