Installing AB Projects is really two steps, and it’s the second one people miss: adding the app to Microsoft Teams takes a minute, but it’s adding the channel tab that actually links a channel to a project and brings your whole team on board.
What installing gives you
Personal app
Pinned to your Teams left rail, with four tabs: Home, Tasks, Projects, and Settings. Your own view of work across every project you belong to.
Channel tab
Added to a team channel and linked to one project, so everyone in that channel works from the same board. See Using Tabs for Task Management.
Bot
Posts task cards into the channel and answers simple commands: in a personal chat, my tasks, tasks today, and help; in a team, team tasks, team members, tasks today, and help.
Step 1 — Add the app
- Open the Teams app store. In Microsoft Teams, click Apps in the left rail.
- Find the app. Search for AB Projects.
- Install it. Click Add for the personal app, or Add to a team to go straight to a channel setup.
- Open it once. You’re signed in automatically with your Microsoft 365 identity — no registration step.
You can also start from the Microsoft Marketplace listing — it opens the same install flow in Teams.
Step 2 — Add the tab to a channel
- Go to the channel where you want the project.
- Add a tab. Click the + button at the top of the channel and select AB Projects.
- Choose a project on the setup screen:
- Create new project — the name is pre-filled from the channel name (you can change it). Pick a project type (General, Development, Marketing, Sales, Support, or Design); the type seeds a sensible starting set of task statuses, types, and environments, all adjustable later in project settings.
- Link existing project — choose one of your projects. Only projects you own or admin that are not already linked to another channel appear here.
- Save. The channel is now linked to the project, a welcome card is posted, and everyone in the channel can work from the tab.

Good to know
- A project links to exactly one channel at a time. A project already linked elsewhere won’t appear in the “link existing” list — unlink it from its current channel first.
- Removing the tab never deletes anything. It only unlinks the channel; the project and its tasks stay intact.
- Membership follows the channel. People in the channel are added to the project automatically when they open the tab — see How Members Are Registered from the Tab and Adding or Removing Members.
- Licensing: the first 10 users in your organization are free. Beyond that, the Basic plan is $3 per user per month; members without a seat get read-only access. See Managing Subscriptions and Billing.

Once the app is added and a channel is linked, the setup is done — your team plans, assigns, and discusses work without leaving Microsoft Teams.
