Teams Channel and Project Linking in AB Projects
In AB Projects, each Microsoft Teams channel is linked one-to-one with a project. This keeps your team's tasks, comments, and updates in the same context as the channel where you already collaborate.
1. One channel, one project
When you add the AB Projects tab to a Teams channel, you either create a new project for that channel or link an existing project you own or admin (see Installing the AB Projects Teams App). From then on that channel maps to exactly one project, and that project links back to exactly one channel.
- Each channel has its own project, members, and task list.
- Comments and task changes are posted into that channel's thread, and replies in the thread sync back to the task.
- A task's comments and attachments belong to that one project — not shared across channels.
Diagram: Each Teams channel corresponds to a single AB Projects project. The channel holds its own posts, files, and notes — and AB Projects adds structured tasks and members within that same channel space.2. Membership follows the channel automatically
You don't have to add people to a project by hand. AB Projects keeps the project roster in sync with the connected Teams channel: when anyone in the channel opens the AB Projects tab, the channel roster is synced and everyone in the channel is added to the project as a Member.
- The sync imports the whole channel roster — an individual person does not have to open the tab themselves to be added; another member opening the tab brings everyone in.
- The sync is throttled (about once per hour per project), so a newly added channel member is typically picked up on the next sync rather than instantly.
- Auto-added members can be assigned tasks and @mentioned in comments because the sync registers their Microsoft identity for the project.
3. Why it works this way
AB Projects uses Microsoft identity (Microsoft SSO) so every member is securely tied to their organization and project. Because membership follows the Teams channel, the roster stays accurate with almost no manual upkeep, and the channel remains the single source of truth for who's on the project. To remove someone for good, remove them from the Teams channel as well — otherwise the next sync re-adds them (see Adding or Removing Members).

5. Summary
- Each Teams channel is linked one-to-one with a project in AB Projects (created or linked when the tab is added).
- Membership follows the channel automatically — opening the tab syncs the whole roster; people don't each need to visit.
- Auto-added members can be assigned tasks and mentioned in discussions.
- Removing someone for good means removing them from the Teams channel too.
- This keeps collaboration secure, contextual, and low-maintenance inside Microsoft Teams.
