Linking Documents to Tasks & Finding Pages
Documents are most useful when they're connected to the work and easy to find. AB Projects links pages to tasks both ways, gives you a searchable page tree, and lets AI assistants work with documents through MCP.
Linking documents and tasks
- A task can be linked to one or more Documents, and a Document shows the tasks linked to it — the relationship works in both directions.
- From a task, use its document-links section to attach the relevant page (for example, link a "Deploy" task to the deployment runbook).
- From a Document, you can see and manage the tasks it's linked to.
- Links make the right reference one click away from the work, and surface the work that depends on a page.
Navigating and searching
- The left page tree reflects the parent/child structure of your Documents; expand sections to browse.
- A search/filter box above the tree narrows it by title so you can jump straight to a page.
- Document content is indexed, so pages are findable by their text, not just their title.
- Keep a sensible parent-path structure (see Creating and Editing Documents) so the tree stays easy to scan as the space grows.
AI assistants and Documents (MCP)
- AB Projects is AI-ready through the Model Context Protocol. A connected assistant can read, search, create, and update Documents and add comments — useful for drafting a page from a discussion, summarizing, or keeping a runbook current.
- AI-generated content and activity are clearly disclosed, the same as elsewhere in AB Projects; review AI-written pages before relying on them, and use the edit note to record AI involvement.
Tips
- Link a task to its supporting document instead of pasting instructions into the task — the page stays the single source of truth and updates in one place.
- When closing out a task taught you something durable, capture it in a linked Document so the knowledge survives the task.
- Ask a connected AI assistant to find or summarize the relevant page rather than hunting the tree manually — then verify and refine.
Linked to tasks, searchable in a structured tree, and reachable by your AI assistants, Documents stay woven into how the team actually works.
