Using AB in Microsoft 365 Copilot

AB Projects, AB Sales and AB Support each include an agent for Microsoft 365 Copilot (Microsoft’s AI assistant): you ask in plain words, and it reads and updates your AB data as you. It sees only what you can see in AB, and it changes nothing until you confirm.

What you need

  • The AB app installed in Microsoft Teams. The agent comes with it; there is nothing else to install. See Installing the AB Projects Teams App.
  • Microsoft 365 Copilot, or Copilot Chat with agents enabled by your organization’s administrator.
  • Your Microsoft 365 work or school account. You sign in with the account you already use; there is no separate password.

Open an agent

  1. Open Microsoft 365 Copilot in Teams, in the Microsoft 365 app, or at m365.cloud.microsoft.
  2. Choose the agent from the agents list: AB Projects, AB Sales or AB Support.
  3. Allow the connection. The first time, Copilot asks to connect to the AB product. Select Allow, and sign in if it asks you to.
  4. Ask. Start from a suggested prompt, or write what you want in your own words.

What to ask

Example questions for each AB agent in Microsoft 365 Copilot
AgentTry askingWhat it works with
AB Projects“What’s overdue across my projects?”
“Create a task to prepare the client demo, due next Friday.”
“Log 2 hours today on my client demo task.”
“Find our wiki page about onboarding and summarize it.”
“How is the project doing, and who has the most on their plate?”
Your tasks, schedule, time and documents, across every project you are a member of.
AB Sales“Which follow-ups are due this week?”
“Show our pipeline by stage.”
“Log a call with Contoso: they asked for a quote.”
“What do we know about Fabrikam?”
“Who should I follow up with today, and who has gone quiet?”
Leads, customers, opportunities, notes and follow-ups in your workspaces. It does not send email: it drafts the message in the chat for you to send.
AB Support“Which tickets are waiting on us?”
“Draft a reply to the most recent ticket waiting on us.”
“What does our knowledge base say about refunds?”
“How much is the AI handling, and what can’t it answer?”
Tickets, internal notes, customers and the knowledge base. It never replies to a customer: a draft waits on the ticket for a person on your desk to send.

How changes work

  • You confirm each one. The card says what will happen and shows the values, such as a status of “In Progress”. Select Cancel and nothing is saved.
  • It asks why. AB records the reason for a change, so if you did not give one, the agent asks. Your reason is saved in your own words.
  • Dates are checked in the chat first. For “next Friday” or “in two weeks”, it tells you the calendar date and weekday it worked out, and waits for your yes.
  • The record shows it was you, with AI. Changes are saved under your name, and task changes appear in the change log and, when the project has a Microsoft Teams channel, in that channel. The agent tells you whether the team was told.

Long lists are cut to the first ten or so, and the agent says when it has done that. Counts such as how many tasks are overdue are true totals even when the list is shorter.

If something isn’t working

Common problems with AB agents in Microsoft 365 Copilot and what to do
What you seeWhat to do
The agent isn’t in your agents listCheck the AB app is installed, and ask your administrator whether agents are allowed in your organization.
It says it can’t do something it should be able to doStart a new chat. Copilot keeps the list of what an agent can do for the length of a conversation, and it can take a few minutes to pick up something new after an update.
It doesn’t show a project, workspace or deskIt sees only what you are a member of in AB. Check you are a member there.
It answers in a different language from your messageUsually this happens when you switch language partway through a chat, especially while making a change. Start a new chat in the language you want.

Prefer another assistant? Claude, ChatGPT and others connect to the same data over MCP (an open standard for connecting assistants to apps): see Connecting AI Assistants via MCP. For everything an assistant can do, see the MCP Tools Reference.
