Roles and the careers page

A new role is Open the moment you create it, but nobody outside your company can see it. Open means your team can work the role. The public page appears only when you press Publish this role.

Post a role

In AB Talent, a role is an open position. What a person can see and do is called their access. Only someone with HR admin or Recruiter access can post a role.

  1. Start the role. Open the Roles tab and choose New role.
  2. Describe it. Role title is required. Department, Location and Employment type are optional, but applicants see them.
  3. Choose the hiring manager. Pick someone under Hiring manager. Someone with Hiring manager access sees only the roles that name them here, so if you leave this Not set, no hiring manager sees the role.
  4. Add the requirements. Write one requirement per line, for example “5 years .NET and Azure”, and give each a weight: Required, Preferred or Nice to have. Use Add requirement for more lines. You need at least one.
  5. Save. Choose Create role. The role opens straight away with an empty pipeline.

Keep each line to one thing you could check. The AI gives each line its own answer, so “5 years .NET and team leadership” works better as two lines. The weights decide how much each line counts toward the Match score.

Work the pipeline

The pipeline is the list of candidates on a role and the stage each one has reached. Open a role from the Roles tab to see it. There are four stages, and a new candidate starts at the first:

Applied Screened Interview Offer

Candidates arrive in two ways: through the careers page, or when your team chooses New candidate and types them in. Paste the CV into the CV box when you add someone, because it cannot be added later and the AI has nothing else to read.

A stage is a label that a person moves. Only a decision moves a candidate. Running a screening or arranging an interview does not change the stage, and changing the stage does not start anything.

Screen / Screen againRuns the AI screening. Nothing is screened until someone presses this.
InterviewsOpens the candidate's page, for interviews, offers and messages.
AdvanceMoves the candidate. The next stage is preselected, and Move to lets you pick another. Why? is required.
RejectEnds the application. Why? is required. The candidate stays in the list, marked as rejected.

There is no drag-and-drop, because every move needs a reason. The reason is stored with the application.

Publish to the careers page

Publishing gives the role a public web page where people can apply for themselves. A role is live for applicants only when all three of these are true:

  • the role is Open
  • the role is published
  • the role is not archived
  1. Check the company name first. The page shows the name in People → Setup → Candidate mail → Company name, as candidates see it. If that is blank it shows the workspace name, which is often the name of the person who set up AB Talent.
  2. Publish. Open the role and find the Careers page card. Choose Publish this role. The badge changes from Not published to Published.
  3. Share it. Choose Copy link and paste the link wherever you advertise.

Only HR admin and Recruiter access can publish. A hiring manager does not see the card. Once published, this is an ordinary public page: anyone with the link can read it, search engines can index it, and it appears in your list of published roles, which applicants reach from All open roles.

What applicants see and agree to

Applicants need no account. The page's labels appear in the language of their browser. Your title and requirements appear exactly as you typed them.

What we're looking forEvery requirement, with its weight. Write nothing in a requirement you would not show the public.
Apply for this roleYour name, Email and Your CV are required. Phone (optional) is not. The CV is pasted as text, because file upload is not available yet.
ConsentA tick box they must accept before Apply.

The tick box reads: “I agree that your company may store what I've entered here to consider me for this role, and may keep it for up to 12 months.” Below it, applicants are told they can ask you to delete their application by replying to your email.

AB Talent records what the applicant was told, not just that they ticked: the time, the version of the wording, and the retention period. A candidate your team typed in has no consent record, and is kept for 12 months from the day they were added. HR admins see the date as Kept until on the candidate's page.

A new application lands at Applied with a small send icon on its row, and New applications for your role appears under Needs you on the Home tab. It has not been screened yet. The CV text is stored for the AI to read, but no screen in AB Talent shows it today.
