Notifications and Reminders

Notifications and Reminders

AB Projects notifies you in three distinct ways: channel activity cards for the whole team, a personal task digest on a schedule you choose, and a per-task deadline reminder that fires once before a specific task is due. The thing people get wrong is treating those last two as the same feature — they're configured in different places and do different jobs.

1. Real-time activity in the Teams channel

Comments and task changes post Adaptive Cards (interactive message cards in Teams) to the project's linked channel as they happen — see Adaptive Cards and Task Previews. Members selected in a comment's mention picker are @mentioned in the post and get Teams' native notification (Commenting with Mentions in Channels).

Project owners and admins can tune the volume. In the project's settings (visible when a channel is linked), the Teams channel notifications section has a master toggle — Post task updates to the linked Teams channel — and six category toggles:

  • New tasks (created or added as subtasks)
  • Status, progress, and complete/reopen
  • Assignment changes
  • Schedule (start date, due date, time, reminders)
  • Details (title, description, priority, type, environment)
  • New comments

Everything is on by default; unchecking a category silences just those posts. These toggles affect only channel posts — digests and deadline reminders are unaffected.

2. Your scheduled task digest

The digest is a summary of your top open tasks — up to ten, ordered by due date, with overdue items flagged — across every project you belong to. Task links open the task directly (in Teams when the project is channel-linked). The email version also includes a short AI-written Today's focus note highlighting what to tackle first.

  1. Open Settings. In the AB Projects personal app, go to the Settings tab and find Task Reminders.
  2. Pick the delivery method. Under Notification Method, check Email, Teams (personal chat), or both. If neither is checked, delivery defaults to email.
  3. Set your schedule. Turn on the weekdays you want and add one or more times per day. Times follow the timezone in your settings.
  4. Click Save Reminders.
  • Delivery lands within about 45 minutes of a set time, and you receive at most one digest per day — the first matching time slot wins.
  • Settings are per person. Each member controls their own digest; there is no project-wide or admin-set default.
  • Turning every day off simply stops the digest — channel activity and deadline reminders continue independently.

3. Per-task deadline reminders

For a task that must not slip, set a one-shot reminder relative to its due date:

  1. Open the task's detail panel and click the bell icon next to the schedule.
  2. Pick a lead time: 15 minutes, 1 hour, 4 hours, 1 day, 3 days, or 1 week before the due date (Off clears it).
  • The reminder goes to the task's assignee (the task needs one), using the same Email / Teams method chosen under Notification Method, with a link that opens the task.
  • It fires once. If the due date changes, the reminder re-arms against the new deadline automatically.
  • It is skipped if the task is already complete or the due date has already passed — no after-the-fact pings. Delivery timing is accurate to about ten minutes.

Use the channel cards for team-wide awareness, the digest for your daily plan, and a deadline reminder for the one task that can't be late — each has its own dial.
